India’s star batter Virat Kohli has a chance to overtake Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene and become the batter with the most fours in T20 World Cup’s history.
Virat Kohli currently has the second most fours in the tournament’s history, hitting 103 fours in 27 innings. He is just eight fours away from reaching the top of the list as Jayawardene currently sits at the summit with 111 fours in 31 T20 World Cup appearances.
India is confirmed to play four group games in the tournament against Ireland, Pakistan, USA and Canada. Kohli will have a chance to surpass the record of Jayawardene in those matches.
The list continues with another Sri Lankan great, Tillakaratne Dilshan, who sits at number 3 with 101 fours in 35 innings. He is followed by India’s captain Rohit Sharma and David Warner who have scored 91 and 86 fours respectively.
As for Kohli, he has been having an amazing cricket season with his most recent stint at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as he became the first batter to 8,000 IPL runs having scored 741 runs at an average of 61.75 with one hundred and five fifties in the latest edition.
Kohli’s 82 against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was also voted by cricket fans as the Greatest Moment in the history of ICC T20 World Cup history.
Kohli is also set to break another Indian cricket record in T20 World Cup history and it is of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni scored 311 runs in the death overs (16-20) whereas Kohli scored 302 runs in the death overs.
